At PAWS Foundation of the Lehigh Valley, we believe that financial hardship should not be a barrier to obtaining the life-changing support of a service dog.
For individuals living with physical or psychological disabilities, a service dog can provide assistance, greater independence, confidence, and a renewed ability to participate in everyday life.
But the cost of obtaining, training, and maintaining a service dog can be significant.
That's where PAWS comes in.
We work to bridge the financial gap between what an individual can afford and the resources they need to pursue a service dog or maintain an existing service dog partnership.
PAWS Foundation provides financial assistance to qualifying individuals in three primary areas:
For individuals who need a service dog but face financial barriers, PAWS may provide funding assistance toward the cost of obtaining a fully trained service dog.
Depending on available funding, our assistance may not cover the entire cost. Instead, our goal is to help bridge the financial gap and make obtaining a service dog more attainable.
Sometimes, an individual may already have a dog that has the potential to become a service dog.
When appropriate, PAWS may provide financial assistance toward professional service dog training through a qualified service dog trainer.
When a service dog who is actively working in service experiences an unexpected veterinary emergency, the cost of care can create a significant financial burden.
When funding is available and eligibility requirements are met, PAWS may help bridge that financial gap by providing assistance toward emergency veterinary care.
PAWS Foundation of the Lehigh Valley does not train or place service dogs.
We work to connect qualifying individuals with financial assistance that can help them pursue a fully trained service dog, obtain professional service dog training, or address an emergency veterinary need for a service dog actively working in service.
We recognize that every person's situation is different. The amount of assistance needed and the amount PAWS may be able to provide will vary.
Our goal is to help make the impossible feel possible.
The financial cost of a service dog can be one of the biggest obstacles standing between a person and the support they need.
We don't believe someone's ability to access life-changing assistance should be determined solely by their ability to pay.
A grant from PAWS may be one piece of a larger funding plan. It may help someone reach their fundraising goal. It may help cover a portion of professional training. It may help keep an actively working service dog healthy and able to continue serving their handler.
Whatever form that assistance takes, our hope is the same:
To help remove financial barriers so more people can experience the independence, confidence, and support that a service dog can provide.
